UAE-Tajikistan relations steadily developing: Ambassador
Sharifi Bahadur Mahmoudzadeh, Ambassador of the Republic of Tajikistan, has affirmed that the UAE-Tajikistan relations, since their inception in 1995, have been steadily developing across all fields, noting that the visions of the two countries’ leadership have contributed to the consolidation of those relations on the basis of mutual respect and common interest.
This came during a press conference held today at the Tajik Embassy in Abu Dhabi, in which the results of the Second High-Level International Conference on the International Decade for Action “Water for Sustainable Development, held on 6-8 June in the capital, Dushanbe, were reviewed.
The Tajik Ambassador noted that the final statement of the conference highlighted the importance of the international commitment to the pursuit of sustainable development goals, the vital role of water in achieving resilient and sustainable development, eradicating poverty and hunger, promoting health, combating desertification and biodiversity loss, as well as social, economic and environmental advancement.
He affirmed his country’s determination to achieve the goals of the ‘Water Action Decade’, by ensuring universal and equitable access to safe and affordable drinking water and sanitation, including related services, and prioritising universal and equitable access to safe drinking water, as well as providing improved water and sanitation services with immediate attention to expanding access and building long-term strategies to increase prevention, preparedness and response to anticipated pandemics, including the COVID-19 crisis, by investing in and sustaining water supplies.
A statement issued by the press office of the Tajik Presidency stressed the need to work on the sustainability of life support systems, with the aim of sound management of the water cycle, strengthening regional cross-border cooperation and sustainable water management, including disaster risk reduction, setting arrangements and agreements, adequate funding and financing mechanisms at various levels, exchanging data on water flows and exchanging timely information on water-related development plans.
